United States Council for International Business: membership and trade services organization representing American business interests globally; serves as U.S. affiliate of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC) to the OECD, International Organization of Employers (IOE).

The Director/Vice President will be responsible for coordinating and managing USCIB work related to healthcare, agriculture, food, nutrition, IPR, APEC and chemicals issues that impact downstream users/manufacturers of articles. S/he will be responsible for issues management, policy development, secretariat support to the relevant USCIB working groups, and participating in membership development activities.


Computer fluency is required, as is an advanced degree in a field related to international economics or international affairs. At least 5 years of experience working on issues related to policy matters impacting food, agriculture, nutrition, healthcare, IPR and chemicals issues that impact downstream users/manufacturers. Experience working with multilateral organizations (such as APEC, SAICM, WHO, FAO, UN, UNEP, Committee on World Food Security, OECD), and a solid understanding of their functions and how they impact policy and regulations is extremely important. Knowledge of APEC and its working groups is also essential. Candidates should be U.S. citizens.

Policy/Issues Management

  • Identify and track issues of concern to the corporate community through media and other information sources, and bring these to the attention of USCIB management and membership.
  • In consultation with committee members, draft USCIB policy positions and statements.
  • Initiate and ensure timely representation of USCIB views to appropriate audiences (e.g. U.S. and foreign governments, international organizations, media), and coordinate follow-up where necessary.
  • Attend meetings relevant to committee work, with U.S. government, international organizations, affiliate organizations, issues experts, etc.; represent USCIB views and report to members and USCIB staff on outcomes.
  • Prepare committee action plans for USCIB’s annual Work Program, and periodic progress reports of committee accomplishments.
  • Report on committee activities for USCIB’s website, eNewsletter and other publications as necessary.
  • Negotiate among USCIB members to develop and craft consensus views on complex and divisive issues.
  • Develop and assist in implementing conferences, seminars and other events to promote policy positions.

Working with International Organizations

  • Help shape and ensure strong U.S. representation, direction, and leadership in the policy work of the USCIB’s affiliates: ICC, IOE and BIAC and other partners such as the International Agrifood Network and the Private Sector Mechanism of the Committee on World Food Security.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and channels of communication with ICC, IOE, BIAC, and OECD Secretariat staffs.
  • Maintain strong relationships and channels of communication in Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) international forum. Participate in various APEC-related meetings throughout year.
  • Attend FAO, SAICM, OECD, Committee on World Security, meetings as required, and help to prepare and provide staff support for U.S. business delegations to these meetings.

Committee Administration

  • Work with committee officers to schedule and plan committee meetings, including drafting agendas and securing outside speakers.
  • Procure and distribute informational materials to committee members as appropriate; disseminate meeting materials, including meeting minutes, in a timely fashion.
  • Establish contacts and maintain ongoing liaison with:
    • Staff counterparts in international affiliated organizations;
    • Staff contacts in intergovernmental organizations;
    • Executive Branch and Congressional staff;
    • Other U.S. general and sectoral business associations.

Marketing/Communications/Membership Development

  • Effectively engage committee members by staying abreast of their particular corporate situations and concerns.
  • Retention: Work with members and the USCIB Membership Department on an ongoing basis to minimize corporate resignations by engaging members in committee work and working to demonstrate the value to specific companies of continued USCIB membership.
  • Recruitment: In cooperation with Membership Department, generate interest in USCIB by identifying prospective member companies and demonstrating and communicating to them the value of USCIB policy work.
  • Help to prepare marketing/communications materials, including press releases, as appropriate.
