Business Meets with G-8 Labor Ministers
Members of BIAC met on December 14 with Group of Eight labor and social affairs ministers in Berlin, just prior to the opening of a high-level G-8 employment conference.
Led by BIAC Chairman Bruno Lamborghini of Italy and Ernst Baumann, chairman of BDA, the German employers confederation, the delegation delivered business views on stimulating growth and employment in the G-8 countries and beyond.
The meeting was opened by German Federal Minister Wolfgang Clement, who presented the central question for ministers: How can governments, international organizations and social partners work together to create more and better jobs worldwide, thus strengthening confidence in the opportunities offered by structural change?
BIAC submitted a statement on “Growth and Employment: The Future of an Active Society in a Changing World.” Key messages included the importance of policy frameworks for sustainable growth, structural reforms to boost employment, fostering entrepreneurship, human resources flexibility in an increasingly diversified workplace, encouraging investment in human capital and promotion of lifelong learning.
BIAC was also invited to open the plenary meeting of the ministers on December 15.
