The Economic Growth and American Jobs Coalition was formally launched earlier this month. Comprised of respected American trade associations and U.S. companies, including USCIB, the coalition is working to promote economic growth and job creation in America, as well as retraining and education for American workers to enable them to continue to compete in the global marketplace.
"This coalition is promoting the importance of policies that provide the education and retraining that allow American workers to build a better future for themselves and for their families, create jobs, encourage research and development, and foster open markets," said John Castellani, president of the Business Roundtable. "We are meeting with congressional, state and administration officials, stressing the importance of economic growth, American job creation and retraining and education policies."
The Economic Growth and American Jobs Coalition advocates on behalf of policy alternatives that offer the best hope that the future for American workers is a bright one:
· Help American Workers – As companies and workers remake themselves to succeed in a worldwide economy, jobs will shift. New jobs are created; others may be lost. While it is extremely difficult to experience any loss of jobs, coalition members are committed to helping workers get the retraining they need to find good paying jobs.
· Promote Growth Opportunities – The government should continue to negotiate more trade agreements (bilateral, regional and multilateral) to open foreign markets that remain closed to U.S. companies and our workers, or that give an advantage to foreign competitors.
· Improve Education and Training – The key to a bright future for American workers rests upon the twin foundations of education and training. We must be relentless in our emphasis on improving education and training so American workers have the skills they need to succeed.
· Enhance R&D Incentives – New incentives for research and development must be put into place.
USCIB will provide support for the coalition’s efforts through active engagement on the domestic front, especially via our Washington, D.C. office. Most importantly, we will work to promote awareness of the issues addressed in the coalition’s work through our global network of business organizations, especially the International Chamber of Commerce.
