Stephen Canner oversees our work on foreign investment policy, treatment of multinational enterprises, financial services and corruption issues. He has been instrumental in leading the business effort in advocating for high standards of protection for international investments and their investors. In addition, Mr. Canner has overseen USCIB input into the revision of the OECD's Principles of Corporate Governance and is engaged in seeking a reservation to the UN Convention on Corruption, which requires countries to provide for a right of private action.
Mr. Canner joined USCIB in 1994 following a 28-year career in the international affairs division of the Treasury Department, where he served as staff director for the inter-agency Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and led staff efforts on the implementation of a U.S. "open door" policy toward foreign investment. He was awarded the President's Distinguished Service Award in 1990. Mr. Canner holds a Ph.D. in economics from Clark University.
