USCIB Position on Climate Policy Mischaracterized
USCIB's April letter to President Bush setting forth priorities for future international negotiations on climate change has been mischaracterized by some in the media and by a number of interest groups.
For the record, it is important to reiterate that:
1. USCIB did not lobby the Bush administration in advance of the administration’s decision on climate change;
2. Our letter to the President came after the administration's declaration concerning the Kyoto Protocol;
3. Our letter urges the administration to remain engaged in global climate negotiations under the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and to seek international consensus on the issue;
4. USCIB is committed to securing business support – at home and abroad – for a sensible, comprehensive U.S. strategy on climate and energy questions.
Inquiries concerning USCIB’s position should be addressed directly to the USCIB communications office (212-703-5043 or 212-354-4480).
In addition, interested parties may wish to refer to the relevant positions on climate taken by the International Chamber of Commerce (available at www.iccwbo.org), of which USCIB is the American national committee.
