Brian Flannery of ExxonMobil Named Vice-Chair of ICC Environment & Energy Commission
The International Chamber of Commerce, the world business organization, has named Brian Flannery, Science Strategy and Programs Manager with ExxonMobil Corporation, Vice-Chair of the ICC Commission on Environment and Energy. This appointment, for a renewable term of three years, will commence on January 1, 2003.
“We have greatly appreciated Brian Flannery’s longstanding commitment to ICC and his immensely valuable contribution to its policy work on energy and climate change over the years,” said ICC Secretary General Maria Livanos Cattaui. “I am therefore pleased that the newly-merged Environment and Energy Commission will benefit from his experience and knowledge in his continuing role as Vice-Chair.”
Since joining ExxonMobil in 1980, Mr. Flannery has worked in various research and management roles involving theoretical science, mathematical modeling and the environment. Prior to joining the company, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and assistant and associate professor at Harvard University. He holds degrees in astrophysics from Princeton and U.C. Santa Cruz.
ICC recently merged its Environment and Energy Commissions in order to better address the confluence of global environmental and energy policies. Mr. Flannery served as Vice-Chair of the Energy Commission from 1999 to 2002. The newly-merged Commission is co-chaired by Lord Holme of Cheltenham (Rio Tinto, United Kingdom) and Juhani Santaholma (Finnish Energy Industries Federation, Finland).
