Rolling Stones Tour 2003
How do they get all that stuff through customs, duty-free?
For fourteen years, the Rolling Stones company has been using ATA Carnet for their world tours. The little-known export tool eliminates duties and taxes paid on the equipment traveling on their worldwide tour, RZO Piecemeal Inc. The specialty international customs document allows $16 million worth of instruments, costumes, sets and lighting to circle the globe without having to pay foreign customs for the privilege of importing into each country.
Twenty-one carnets were issued by USCIB’s ATA Carnet Service Provider, the Corporation for International Business, to the Rolling Stones between January 21st and February 12th, 2003. This facilitated their tour from Australia to Japan to Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Bangkok, Mumbai (Bombay), Bangalore, Delhi, Dubai and onto Europe where they will play 30 concerts in 9 countries finally completing the tour on August 29, 2003. Carnets are accepted in over 75 countries – including nearly all of Europe, most of East Asia and many countries in Africa, and can be used for multiple trips during a one-year period.
