Committee Profiles

Transportation

Background

The global trading system depends upon efficient intermodal transport and competitive transport services worldwide.  Business strongly supports the liberalization of all transport modes, as well as initiatives to modernize maritime and multimodal transport regimes, enhance supply chain security and promote environmentally sustainable transport. USCIB and its international affiliates bring together shippers, carriers, ports, airlines, airport representatives and intermediaries to elaborate global business positions on these issues.

Objective

Influence international transportation regulations and policies in favor of a more competitive environment.

Current Priorities

·         Provide industry views to the U.S. government on bilateral and multilateral shipping and trade issues. Use USCIB’s global network to address bilateral concerns, including restrictive and discriminatory practices.

·         Contribute industry views toward policy initiatives concerning the security of maritime transport.

·         Through ICC, provide industry views in deliberations of the International Maritime Organization’s Maritime Safety Committee and Marine Environmental Protection Committee related to vessel emissions.

·         Advocate direct government funding of dredging programs that are required to maintain the viability and competitiveness of U.S. ports and waterways.

·         Promote development of ICC recommendations to improve intermodal coordination through the use of electronic transport documents.
