UN Ad Hoc Open‑Ended Working Group to Prepare for Intergovernmental Negotiation on Plastic Pollution

In resolution 5/14, UNEA-5.2 requested the UNEP Executive Director to convene an intergovernmental negotiating committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment, based on a comprehensive approach that addresses the full life cycle of plastic.

Also as part of resolution 5/14, the UNEP Executive Director is requested to convene an ad hoc open-ended working group to prepare for the work of the intergovernmental negotiating committee to end plastic pollution. This meeting will be held from May 30 to June 1, 2022 in Dakar, Senegal in a hybrid format.
