POSTPONED: WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12)

June 8, 2020 - June 12, 2020

Due to COVID-19, this ministerial has been postponed. A new date has not yet been determined. Contact Chris Olsen for more information: colsen@uscib.org

The next WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12) is taking place in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan June 8-12, 2020. USCIB will be on the ground for the meetings. The ICC is organizing a Business Forum to take place on the margins of MC12 on June 10, 2020.

The Ministerial agenda will include sessions on issues of primary importance (WTO reform; digital trade; trade and investment facilitation; trade and environment and trade for social good).  There will also be workshops in smaller rooms on second-order issues (subsidies; WTO accession; intellectual property; financial services; innovation, data and new technologies; and energy). An online registration system will soon be established by the government of Kazakhstan.

The ICC is also drafting a ICC-B20 Business Declaration. This will be a two-page communique setting out high-level demands by global business of the WTO and its Members for the next ministerial cycle (2020-2022). The aim of the document will be to push WTO Members to suggest practical ideas for WTO reform, pressure governments to conclude ongoing negotiations and encourage new issues to be placed on the WTO’s agenda.

If you have any questions about the ministerial or USCIB’s role, please email Eva Hampl (ehampl@uscib.org).
